We have a new opportunity for a GP to create a portfolio role combining general practice with urgent care, offering greater clinical variety alongside the security of guaranteed hourly income for your urgent care sessions.

Based in the Newcastle area of New South Wales, this opportunity would suit a GP who enjoys general practice but are alos interested in ups killing and further developing skills and interests.

One of the biggest attractions of this opportunity is flexibility. Rather than working exclusively in traditional general practice, you can build a working week that incorporates both regular GP sessions and urgent care shifts.

Your general practice sessions provide the continuity of care and variety you would expect from Australian general practice, while your urgent care sessions offer exposure to more acute presentations in a dedicated urgent care environment.

The urgent care component is paid at an hourly rate, providing guaranteed income for those sessions rather than relying solely on percentage-based GP billings.

Urgent care sits between traditional general practice and a hospital Emergency Department.  The service provides prompt assessment and treatment for patients whose condition requires more immediate attention than a routine GP appointment but isn’t considered a life-threatening emergency.

You’ll see a varied caseload that can include sprains and suspected minor fractures, wound management and suturing, minor burns, eye and ear presentations, infections, breathing problems, vomiting and dehydration.

Patients are triaged by experienced nursing staff before being assessed and treated by a GP.

For GPs who enjoy practical medicine, minor procedures and the faster pace of acute presentations, it provides an opportunity to broaden your clinical week without moving completely away from general practice.

You’ll work as part of an experienced multidisciplinary team with skilled nursing support and access to dedicated treatment and procedure facilities. The urgent care service is open seven days a week and has access to pathology and pharmacy services within the same location, with X-ray facilities also available nearby.

There is also a strong focus on developing urgent care skills, with access to education opportunities designed specifically for clinicians working in this area.
