We are looking for a  Consultant Psychiatrist with an interest in Older Persons Mental Health looking for a role that offers professional challenge alongside an exceptional lifestyle.
This leading public health service in Hawke’s Bay, New Zealand is seeking a Consultant Psychiatrist to join their Mental Health and Addictions Service, working within Older Persons Mental Health and Consultation Liaison services.

The service operates across community and hospital settings with strong multidisciplinary collaboration and offers the opportunity to combine clinical expertise with leadership responsibilities, supporting high-quality mental health care for older adults.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Provide comprehensive psychiatric assessment, diagnosis and treatment for older adult patients.
  • Act as Responsible Clinician under the Mental Health (Compulsory Assessment and Treatment) Act 1992.
  • Undertake capacity assessments and support applications under the Protection of Personal and Property Rights Act where appropriate.
  • Work collaboratively with general practitioners, hospital specialists and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Provide clinical leadership and support to the wider mental health team.
  • Participate in peer review and ongoing professional development activities.
The service has a well-established peer review group and provides access to continuing professional development (CPD) to support ongoing specialist registration.
