GP Job- Northlands Region- The Practice
This is a friendly, busy rural general practice with a patient population of 12,5000. They are looking for an enthusiastic family GP who are looking for a collegial team. Located in the beautiful Northlands region of New Zealand, it is a GP owned and managed practice.
It is a practice with 10 other GPs and an excellent support team of skilled nurses and reception staff to support. Some GPs have their own special interests and are supported in the practice with specialist equipment and facilities. One GP has an opthamology interest so the practice has a slit lamp, visual field testing and OCT scanner in the clinic. Another has an interest in skin cancer and runs regular skin clinics.
The practice is fully electronic and is co-located at the local hospital with excellent working relationships with allied health providers. The central practice sees standard GP and urgent care patients but they also offer a satellite clinic in more remote communities and work closely with Maori Health providers.
The practice is a teaching practice with great working relationships and a collegial environment. There is a lab and x-ray on site with adjoining hospital with 12 adult beds and acute assessment unit.
You will see 4 patients per hour and an average of 24 – 30 patients per day. Working hours are 8am – 5pm with time allocated for lunch and admin. The team meet daily. There is an element of after hours commitment but only until 8pm for GP patients and a Saturday with a 1:7 rota.
The practice is based in a small coastal town on the Northland region of New Zealand. It is 45 minutes away from Whangarei which is the closest city and 2.5 hours north of Auckland. There is a fabulous beach just 10 minutes from the town which is great for surfing, walks, horse riding and fishing.
The subtropical Northland region of New Zealand stretches upwards from Auckland to the very top of New Zealand. Rich in culture and history, the region boasts a stunning natural environment. Northland has a sub-tropical climate, making it the warmest region in New Zealand. Annual sunshine hours average about 2000 per annum, in many areas very little rainfall.
