Last year saw proposals put forward in support of removing a large number of medical professionals (including GPs) from the Skilled shortage list. If implemented this would have affected those applying for Permanent Residency (PR) visas.
Understandably, this has caused some confusion and concern for doctors interested in making the transition to Australia. We now have early confirmation that GPs are to remain on the Skilled Occupation list for both temporary and permanent visas for Australia. Although there is a process of reform being implemented this will not affect most GPs eligibility for both temporary and permanent visas, the changes are primarily process related and it’s business as usual!
