From laid-back, quieter lifestyles to friendly locals, stunning natural environments and cheaper cost of living, there are a lot of benefits to escaping the big cities! Although the majority of Australians live in the large cities, 32% of the population live in regional and rural towns and cities. The population of Regional Australia is growing, up from 28% in 2017. The Australian Bureau of National Statistics suggest that this will continue to grow over the coming years.

What are the benefits of regional work as a GP?

The friendliness and social environment of regional communities is highlighted as being a positive aspect of living and working in these areas. Most Regional GP jobs are located in a town or small city or at least within easy access of one. This allows for a great lifestyle with access to educational and leisure activities without living in a crowded city.

Professional benefits can include reduced moratorium (the time you need to work in DWS), bonus payments, accommodation and car offered (this doesn’t happen as often in the city) and the chance to practise your special interests.
